Gosaikunda Lake Trek – 08 days

Gosaikunda Lake Trek is one of Nepal’s best and shortest treks. This week-long adventure allows one to witness breathtaking snow-capped peaks, immerse oneself in the Himalayas, and lie beside the sacred Gosaikunda Lake. The trail is not crowded; one can experience all this in a week.

Gosaikunda Lake, at an altitude of 4,380m from sea level, is located near other lakes such as Surya Kunda, Bhairav Kunda, and Saraswati Kunda. Gosaikunda is one of the holiest lakes for both Hindus and Buddhists. According to Hindu, once there was an event called Samundra Manthan, which was performed to extract the Immortality Nectar (Amrit). But before the Amrit, the poison gets released, affecting the surroundings. The event must continue, but the poison has affected it so much that it is halted. Seeing this, the Lord Shiva comes forward and drinks all the poison, which results in throat pain. To calm his pain, he leaves the place of the event and searches for cold water that could relieve him from the pain. He then reached the hill, hit it with the trident, and drank the water from the lake formed, named Gosaikunda.
